Why this site exists
Search for almost any product category and you will find the same three problems. Lists of fifteen options with no ranking behind them. Descriptions copied from the manufacturer. And enthusiasm about everything, which is the same as information about nothing.
We built this site to do the opposite. Fewer picks. Stated criteria. Named trade-offs. And a clear answer to the question most buying guides avoid: who should not buy this.
How we work
We decide what matters in a category before we look at products, then evaluate candidates against that fixed set of criteria. Every product we rate gets a BRD Score built from the same weighted formula, which we publish in full rather than asking you to trust it.
We are direct about our limits. We do not conduct physical product testing and we do not run a lab. Our work is research and analysis: manufacturer documentation, published safety standards, long-term owner reports across multiple retailers, warranty terms, recall history and price movement. When a claim comes from a manufacturer rather than an independent source, we say so.
The full method is on our How We Review page.
How we pay for it
We use affiliate links. When you buy through one, we may earn a commission from the retailer at no additional cost to you.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Commission rates vary between products and retailers. They have no input into our rankings, and no term for them exists in the scoring formula. When the best option in a category earns us nothing, it still ranks first and we say that we earn nothing from it. Our Affiliate Disclosure covers this in detail.
Who writes here
Each of our writers covers a defined area rather than rotating across whatever is trending. The person writing about cordless drills is the person who follows that category week to week.
Every guide carries a byline, a publication date and a last updated date. Author biographies describe what a writer covers and how they approach it. We do not list credentials or affiliations that a writer does not hold.
Where we use AI, and where we do not
We use AI tools for research assistance, drafting and summarizing source material. We are open about it because the alternative is pretending otherwise.
AI does not decide what we recommend and does not reach publication unreviewed. A named human editor reads, corrects and approves every guide, and is responsible for what it says. Any fact produced by an AI tool is verified against a primary source, because these tools invent plausible specifications with total confidence.
What we will not do
We do not accept payment for placement, for a ranking, or for the removal of criticism. We do not publish sponsored content disguised as editorial. We do not invent measurements, awards, credentials or people. We do not publish medical, financial, legal or tax advice.
Our full standards, including how we handle corrections, are in our Editorial Policy.
